Recap: Notre Dame Prep Saints vs. Modesto Christian Crusaders
The Notre Dame Prep Saints entered their tilt with the Modesto Christian Crusaders with six consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with seven. Notre Dame Prep took down Modesto Christian 64-45 on Monday. Given Notre Dame Prep's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fourth in Arizona, while Modesto Christian is ranked 40th in California), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Notre Dame Prep's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Anthony Batson jr., who scored 27 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Batson jr. is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Bryce Quinet, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Drevon Johnson, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Gavin Sykes was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds.
Even though they lost, Modesto Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Notre Dame Prep only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.
Notre Dame Prep's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 82.2 points per game. As for Modesto Christian, their loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-3.
Notre Dame Prep will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on January 18th. Hopefully Horizon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Tuesday. As for Modesto Christian, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome West at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Hopefully West focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Wednesday.
