Basketball Recap: Westwood Comes Up Short

Westwood was the 61-20 winner over Melbourne when they last played one another back in February of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The contest between the Westwood Panthers and the Melbourne Bulldogs didn't end well, with the Westwood Panthers falling 43-25. The game marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Despite the loss, Westwood still got an impressive performance from Jihla Greer, who posted 12 points.

Melbourne's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brianna Matthews led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 14 points and nine rebounds. Matthews is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last seven games she's played. Jocelyn Paz was another key player, putting up ten points and five rebounds.

Westwood's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for Melbourne, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-10.

Westwood didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 47-8 win against Tradition Prep on the 22nd. As for Melbourne, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 53-27 victory against Calvary Chapel Academy on the 21st.
