Basketball Game Preview: Piute Thunderbirds vs. Panguitch Bobcats

Piute is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Panguitch is on a 15-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The two teams will face off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest, having both just played. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Piute is headed into the contest having just posted their closest victory since December 28, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 66-63 win over Milford.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Panguitch sidestepped Valley for a 50-47 victory.

Panguitch's win came from a few key players Piute will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Maddix Johnson, who posted 19 points and seven boards. That's the most rebounds he has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Remme Chappell, who put up eight points and 12 boards.

Piute is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points over those games. As for Panguitch, their win bumped their record up to 20-3.

Piute came up short against Panguitch in their previous matchup back in January, falling 60-48. Can Piute avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
