The University City Centurions will be taking part in a tournament against the Steele Canyon Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. University City's pitching crew has only allowed 1.2 runs per game this season, so Steele Canyon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
University City is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Santana by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday.
Julian Gonzalez looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. That's the fewest earned runs he has allowed since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jayden Parker, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nate Thy, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Steele Canyon beat Mira Mesa 10-5 on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Cougars.
Caden Davey and Logan Page did most of the damage at the plate: Davey scored a run while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Page scored two runs while going 2-for-2. That run was Davey's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madden McBride, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.
Steele Canyon's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for University City, they pushed their record up to 5-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.
University City's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's game. University City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Steele Canyon, though, as they've been averaging only 0.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will University City continue to outrun the ball?
University City beat Steele Canyon 5-1 when the teams last played on March 3rd. Will University City repeat their success, or does Steele Canyon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
