Softball Game Preview: Fairfield Trojans vs. Mt. Pleasant Panthers

Fairfield has gone 8-2 against Mt. Pleasant recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Trojans will head out on the road to square off against the Panthers at 5:30 p.m. The matchup will give Fairfield their first taste of in-conference action this season.

Fairfield had taken Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont down for two straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Trojans fell just short of the Rockets by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Trojans have suffered against the Rockets since May 24, 2018.

Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant fell victim to Louisa-Muscatine and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They lost 9-0 to the Falcons. The defeat leaves the Panthers still looking for their first win of the season.

Mt. Pleasant's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Fairfield, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Fairfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Mt. Pleasant in their previous matchup back in June of 2024, winning 9-6. Will the Trojans repeat their success, or do the Panthers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
