Basketball Recap: Freeman Comes Up Short

Freeman lost against Glen Allen back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Freeman Mavericks took a blow against the Glen Allen Jaguars, falling 60-23. While losing is never fun, the Mavericks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while the Jaguars are ranked 14th).

Freeman's loss came despite strong showings from Addie Morton and Natalie Murchie. Morton posted 11 points, while Murchie earned eight points. That was a full 47.8% of Freeman's points, marking the 19th time in a row Morton has put up more than a third of the team's points.

Sydney Worsham was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 24 points and ten boards for Glen Allen. The contest was Worsham's third in a row with at least 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lindsey Shoulders, who went 6-for-13 en route to 13 points along with seven assists and six rebounds.

Freeman's loss dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Glen Allen, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 19-2.

Freeman has already played their next match, a 64-6 victory against Thomas Jefferson on the 18th. Glen Allen will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Thomas Dale at 5:30 p.m. on February 25th. Glen Allen knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Thomas Dale likes a good challenge.
