Softball Game Preview: Bethesda Christian Patriots vs. Covenant Christian Warriors

Bethesda Christian hasn't had much luck against Covenant Christian recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Patriots will look to defend their home field against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Bethesda Christian will be strutting in after a victory while Covenant Christian will be coming in after a defeat.

Bethesda Christian proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by 11) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Crawfordsville 2-1.

Annah Heath spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.

At the plate, Bethesda Christian saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Gibbs, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Covenant Christian and Indianapolis Bishop Chatard, and Indianapolis Bishop Chatard kept the tradition alive. The Warriors fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 7-6 on Monday.

Avery Bennett made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Moriah Armstrong, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Bethesda Christian pushed their record up to 6-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Covenant Christian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
