After a string of six wins, Flagstaff's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of the Lee Williams Volunteers by a score of 5-4. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Volunteers earlier this season, when they won 4-1.

Connor Smith was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Christian Welker made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Flagstaff's defeat was their first in the region, dropping their region record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 13-6. As for Lee Williams, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-8 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Flagstaff will take on rival Bradshaw Mountain at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Eagles 3.1, the Bears 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Lee Williams is set to square off against their familiar foe Prescott at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
