Softball Recap: Bishop O'connell Takes Down Ranked St. John's

Bishop O'Connell is ranked highly in their home state and on Tuesday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of St. John. The Knights blew past the Cadets 9-1. The win continues a trend for the Knights in their matchups with the Cadets: they've now won seven in a row.

Annie Van Dyck spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up 19 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Ashley Bond, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gigi Payne, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Bishop O'Connell's victory bumped their record up to 14-3. As for St. John's, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-11.

Looking ahead, Bishop O'Connell will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Mary's Ryken at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Bishop O'Connell's pitchers better be ready for this one: St. Mary's Ryken has averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season. St. John's does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
