Basketball Recap: Luciano Mondragon's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Valley over Highland

Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 48-41 to the Highland Hornets. The Vikings were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hornets earlier this season, when they won 68-59.

Valley lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Luciano Mondragon, who went 5 of 11 en route to 10 points. Another player making a difference was Christopher Melendez, who posted six points.

Highland can attribute much of their success to Juan Campuzano, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds. Those 16 points gave Campuzano a new career-high. Juan Limas was another key player, putting up 11 points and seven boards.

Valley's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Highland, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Valley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-49 defeat against Albuquerque on the 18th. As for Highland, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 62-59 loss against West Mesa on the 18th.
