Baseball Game Preview: Benicia Panthers vs. Alhambra Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Benicia will face off against Alhambra. The Panthers will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Benicia 3.8, Alhambra 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While Benicia's win against Alhambra wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers won by a run and slipped past the Bulldogs 4-3. The victory continues a trend for the Panthers in their matchups with the Bulldogs: they've now won six in a row.

Dominic Louro looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Benicia's success: when he allows at most three earned runs the team is 9-1 (and 6-7 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Benicia let Myles Cooper and Peyton Rowles run wild. Cooper went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Rowles got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Cooper has posted since back in March. Nash Rubins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

Benicia's win bumped their record up to 15-8. As for Alhambra, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season.
