Softball Recap: Ganado Triumphs

Ganado's game last Monday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They came out on top against the Chinle Wildcats by a score of 9-4. This was payback for the Hornets, who suffered a 12-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Connie Burns made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over 6.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Shelby Lee and Shayli Abeita-Walker did most of the damage at the plate: Lee scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Abeita-Walker scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave Abeita-Walker a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jasmine Bob, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Ganado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .595. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Ganado's victory was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-8. As for Chinle, they dropped their record down to 5-6 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Ganado didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 19-5 win against Many Farms on the 28th. As for Chinle, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 7-5 victory against Page on the 1st.
