Volleyball Recap: Lewisburg Takes Down Starkville in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lewisburg had no problem doing just that on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Starkville Yellowjackets with a sharp 3-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Patriots in their matchups with the Yellowjackets: they've now won four in a row.

While Lewisburg won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the first set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-23, 25-7, 25-21.

Lewisburg was led to victory by Laney Wier and HadleigH Woods. Wier had 17 digs and four assists, while Woods had five digs and three aces. That's the most aces Woods has posted over her last 11 contests.

They weren't the only good servers: Lewisburg was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 11 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Starkville only served three.

Lewisburg's victory bumped their record up to 27-10. As for Starkville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-25-1.

Lewisburg has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Oxford on the 9th. Starkville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
