Basketball Game Preview: Bell Griffins vs. Ron Brown Monarchs

The Bell Griffins will venture away from home to take on the Ron Brown Monarchs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

On Wednesday, Bell was beaten by Coolidge 73-11. While losing is never fun, the Griffins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' District of Columbia basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Colts are ranked fifth).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ron Brown). They blew past Bard 67-44 on Wednesday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Monarchs with their most commanding win of the season.

Bell better focus on containing Derrick Harley and Hunter Brown as the pair were huge in Ron Brown's win. Harley went 10 for 15 on his way to 21 points in addition to five assists and five boards, while Brown almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Brown is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Lenoxx Walker, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 13 points.

Ron Brown's record is now 8-6. As for Bell, they dropped their record down to 3-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Things could have been worse for Bell, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-44 loss to Ron Brown in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Bell avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
