Softball Game Preview: Long Prairie-Grey Eagle Thunder vs. Staples-Motley Cardinals

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle is a perfect 3-0 against Staples-Motley since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Thunder will challenge the Cardinals at 4:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Thursday, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle didn't have quite enough to beat Upsala and fell 6-5. The Thunder have struggled against the Cardinals recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.

Meanwhile, Staples-Motley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 7-4 to Wadena-Deer Creek. Surprisingly, this marked the Cardinals' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Addie Potter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 12 hits.

At the plate, Jade Storry was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Rachel Kossan, who went 2-for-4 with three runs.

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Staples-Motley, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle took their win against Staples-Motley when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 20-10 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Thunder since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
