Basketball Recap: Sandy Creek Cougars vs. Thayer Central Titans
The Sandy Creek Cougars lost against the Thayer Central Titans last Saturday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Sandy Creek took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Titans. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Sandy Creek in their matchups with the Titans: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Sandy Creek saw an underclassman step up: Paige Biltoft scored 14 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Biltoft has scored all season. Emma Fisher was another key contributor, scoring six points along with five rebounds.
Thayer Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Natalie Tietjen led the charge by scoring 14 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Paige Tietjen, who scored 12 points.
Sandy Creek has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for Thayer Central, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.
Sandy Creek and the Huskies will face off at 11:00 a.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Heartland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 19 on Tuesday. As for Thayer Central, they will square off against the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Sutton is ranked 96th, while the Titans are ranked 93rd).
