Mount Academy takes loss despite strong performances from Dennis Hofer and Jake Maendel

Recap: Mount Academy Eagles vs. Ellenville Blue Devils

The Mount Academy Eagles pushed their score all the way to 63 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They suffered a rough 86-63 loss at the hands of Ellenville. It was the first time this season that Mount Academy let down their fans at home.

Mount Academy's loss came despite strong showings from Jake Maendel and Dennis Hofer. Maendel scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Hofer scored 18 points along with three steals. Maendel is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai Meier, who scored eight points along with five rebounds.

Ellenville's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mathew Vanmatre led the charge by scoring 18 points along with two blocks. It was the first time this season that Vanmatre posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Duvaun Douglas, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Mount Academy's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-3. As for Ellenville, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

Coincidentally, the pair will both be playing Onteora the next time they take the court. Ellenville will host Onteora at 5:45 p.m. on Saturday, while Mount Academy will host them at 5:45 p.m. on Monday.
