Softball Recap: Clover Hill Drops Highest Score of Season Against L.C. Bird

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clover Hill). They blew past the L.C. Bird Skyhawks 20-2 on Thursday. The victory was familiar territory for the Cavaliers, who have now won four contests in a row.

Brianna Miller was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cayla Wright was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Alejandra Wittman, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Clover Hill's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.3 runs over those games. As for L.C. Bird, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13 record this season.

Clover Hill will look to defend their home field on Friday against Dinwiddie at 5:30 p.m. The Generals will roll in looking for their 13th straight win, something the Cavaliers surely won't give up without a fight. As for L.C. Bird, they will venture away from home to face off against Powhatan at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Skyhawks' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 7.1 runs per game this season.
