Soccer Game Preview: Western Harnett vs. Overhills

Western Harnett is 2-8 against Overhills since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Eagles will venture away from home to face off against the Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. Overhills took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Western Harnett, who comes in off a win.

Western Harnett will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one goal two weeks ago, then bounced right back against E.E. Smith on Tuesday. The Eagles walked away with a 4-2 win over the Golden Bulls. Considering Western Harnett's offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Overhills' offense. They fell 2-0 to Pine Forest on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Overhills can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Pine Forest are ranked 103rd).

Overhills' defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6-1. As for Western Harnett, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road and puts them at 4-13-1.

Western Harnett came up short against Overhills when the teams last played back in March, falling 3-1. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
