Recap: St. Mary's Academy Crusaders vs. Bishop Seabury Academy Seahawks
After flying high against the Veritas Christian Eagles on Friday, the St. Mary's Academy Crusaders came back down to earth. St. Mary's Academy lost to Bishop Seabury Academy on the road by a decisive 59-42 margin on Monday. While losing is never fun, St. Mary's Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while Bishop Seabury Academy is ranked 34th).
Several Crusaders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Nick Whitehead , who scored 11 points along with three steals. Whitehead scored a full 26.2% of St. Mary's Academy's points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Andrew Moats, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, St. Mary's Academy were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Bishop Seabury Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jace Smith, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Aidan Page, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
St. Mary's Academy has fallen quite a ways from their 15-7 record last season and are now at 1-3. As for Bishop Seabury Academy, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. St. Mary's Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Life Prep at 6:00 p.m. on December 19th. Bishop Seabury Academy will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Veritas Christian at 8:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
