Basketball Preview: Castle Knights vs. Gibson Southern Titans
Castle is 4-0 against the Titans since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Castle Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Gibson Southern Titans at 7:00 p.m. Castle has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Even though Evansville Bosse scored an imposing 63 points on Thursday, Castle still came out on top. Castle skirted past the Bulldogs 66-63. That's two games straight that Castle has won by exactly three points.
Castle's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Xander Niehaus led the charge by scoring 15 points along with six steals. Another player making a difference was Ayden Mcatee, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Gibson Southern beat the Raiders 60-52 on Thursday. The victory was all the more spectacular given Gibson Southern's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 232nd, while the Raiders are ranked 109th).
Castle's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.0 points per game. As for Gibson Southern, their victory bumped their record up to 6-12.
Castle came out on top in a nail-biter against the Titans in their previous matchup back in December of 2017, sneaking past 59-57. Will Castle repeat their success, or do the Titans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
