Baseball Recap: Azusa Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Azusa barely beat Nogales the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Aztecs blew past the Nobles 10-4 on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Aztecs sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Aidan Sanchez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Anthony Rojas was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Matt Huizar, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Azusa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in 13 consecutive contests.

Azusa now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Nogales, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-15.

Coming up, Azusa will take on Baldwin Park at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Braves will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Aztecs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Nogales, they will square off against Morningside at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Nobles are facing the Monarchs at the right time seeing as the Monarchs are stuck on an 18-game losing streak.
