Basketball Recap: Elgin Beats Upper Scioto Valley for Their Second Straight Win

If Upper Scioto Valley wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Elgin, they should've done a better job of containing Maycee Muselin. Everything went the Elgin Comets' way against the Upper Scioto Valley Rams on Thursday as the Elgin Comets made off with a 53-29 victory thanks in part to Muselin, who almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Elgin's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Kadence Gear, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 10 points and six boards. She is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 45% in the last three games she's played.

When it comes to explaining why Upper Scioto Valley lost, don't look at Layla Hunsicker. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Another player making a difference was Kamyn Titus, who scored six points.

The win made it two in a row for Elgin and bumps their season record up to 14-8. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.5 points over those games. As for Upper Scioto Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-13.

Elgin will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Cardington-Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on February 18th. As for Upper Scioto Valley, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 43-33 defeat against Hardin Northern on the 8th.
