Preview: Summer Creek Bulldogs vs. Steele Knights
The Summer Creek Bulldogs are on the road again on Saturday and play against the Steele Knights at 4:00 p.m. on December 9th. Summer Creek knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past seven matches -- so hopefully Steele likes a good challenge.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Summer Creek had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They managed a 35-31 victory over the Hurricanes. Summer Creek's victory was all the more impressive since Fort Bend Hightower was averaging only 16.79 points allowed on the season.
Lloyd Avant was his usual excellent self, rushing for 151 yards and three touchdowns. Avant hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Kordell Rodgers, who picked up 104 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Steele came tearing into Saturday's matchup with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.6 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Dripping Springs by a score of 28-21.
Steele got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chad Warner out in front who threw for 195 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Hatton , who rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown.
Summer Creek's victory bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Steele, the last time they lost on the road was back back in September. Having now won four straight away matches, they've pushed their record up to 13-1.
We should be in store for an exciting game Saturday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Summer Creek has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 396 total yards per game. However, it's not like Steele struggles in that department as they've been even better at 434.4 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
