Football Recap: Palmerton Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Palmerton unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They took a hard 28-14 fall against the Jim Thorpe Olympians on Saturday. The game was a 14-14 toss-up at halftime, but the Blue Bombers couldn't quite close it out.

Although Palmerton took the loss, they still got scores from Caleb Sagastume and Wyatt Gable.

Cole Lazorick had a dynamite game For Jim Thorpe., throwing for 231 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 72.2% of his passes, and also rushing for 65 yards and one score. Lazorick didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended two passes in addition to snagging an interception. Another player making a difference was Josh Louk, who gained 96 total yards and a touchdown.

Palmerton and Jim Thorpe will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Blue Bombers are set to face off against their familiar foe Pen Argyl at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, Jim Thorpe will square off against rival Pottsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
