Softball Game Preview: Atlantic Eagles vs. Olympic Heights Lions

Atlantic is 1-9 against Olympic Heights since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Lions at 6:00 p.m. Atlantic has given up an average of 19.4 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Atlantic is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on April 1st. They came up short against American Heritage, falling 20-6.

Meanwhile, while Olympic Heights put up plenty of runs on Tuesday, the same can't be said for Atlantic Christian. The Lions blew past the Sharks 19-0. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won seven contests by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Kaitlyn Courtney made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Alexa Gleichenhaus was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Elsie Throckmorton, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.

The win made it two in a row for Olympic Heights and bumps their season record up to 9-10. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Atlantic, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Atlantic might still be hurting after the 22-5 defeat they got from Olympic Heights in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
