Softball Recap: Boyd County Continues Home Dominance on Tuesday

Boyd County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lawrence County Bulldogs, sneaking past 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Lions have posted against the Bulldogs since April 22, 2019.

Elyn Simpkins made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned (and six unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Savanna Henderson was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Jadyn Goad was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Boyd County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Boyd County pushed their record up to 20-11 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lawrence County, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.

Looking ahead, Boyd County will host Henderson County on Saturday. As for Lawrence County, they will square off against Floyd Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
