Football Game Preview: Overton Mustangs vs. Grapeland Sandies

For the first time this season, Overton will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will host the Grapeland Sandies at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Overton is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped last Thursday as they easily beat Maud 49-22. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won three matchups by 27 points or more so far this season.

It was another big night for Rylan Holleman, who rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries, and also threw for 137 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes. His longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Miller, who rushed for 75 yards and two scores on only ten carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Overton was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 297 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Grapeland took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-20 victory over Groveton.

The win made it two in a row for Overton and bumps their season record up to 3-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.5 points over those games. As for Grapeland, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
