Baseball Game Preview: St. Bernard's Crusaders vs. University Prep Panthers

The St. Bernard's Crusaders will head out to square off against the University Prep Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. St. Bernard's is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

On Thursday, St. Bernard's made easy work of South Fork and carried off a 12-4 victory. Considering the Crusaders have won 12 matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

St. Bernard's gave Brody Gaser the start and clearly made the right call: he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit.

At the plate, Garrett Shanahan was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hinrichs, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Meanwhile, University Prep fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against West Valley on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 3-2. The Panthers haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

St. Bernard's record is now 19-1. As for University Prep, their loss dropped their record down to 8-14-1.

St. Bernard's couldn't quite finish off University Prep in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 and fell 3-1. Can the Crusaders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
