Baseball Recap: Hollins Comes Up Short

Hollins lost against St. Petersburg back in March of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Hollins fell just short of St. Petersburg by a score of 3-2.

Riley McDonald was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hollins is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-5 otherwise. McDonald was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last three times he's played.

McDonald wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Teagan Davies, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Hollins has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. St. Petersburg moved to 3-8-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Hollins has already played their next game, a 3-1 defeat against Palm Harbor University on the 14th. As for St. Petersburg, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-4 loss against Dunedin on the 14th.
