Basketball Game Preview: Sandoval Blackhawks vs. North Clay/Clay City

Sandoval hasn't had much luck against North Clay/Clay City recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Sandoval Blackhawks will take on North Clay/Clay City in a tournament on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Sandoval is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. The matchup between them and Grayville didn't end well, with Sandoval falling 75-60. While the Blackhawks didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bison 15-11 in the first quarter.

Despite their loss, Sandoval saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Drew Gore, who went 8 for 17 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Gore's evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Trayton Adams, who posted ten points along with seven steals and six boards.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Clay/Clay City). They breezed by Grayville to the tune of 84-56 on Saturday. The win was familiar territory for North Clay/Clay City who have now won three games in a row.

North Clay/Clay City's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for Sandoval, they now have a losing record at 4-5.

Sandoval was dealt a bruising 72-43 defeat at the hands of North Clay/Clay City when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Sandoval avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
