High school football rankings: Lee County becomes fourth team from Georgia to earn spot in MaxPreps Top 25

No. 1 Mater Dei, No. 7 St. John Bosco set for rematch in California's Southern Section Division 1 championship game.

Lee County (Leesburg) is the only new team in this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings following a 63-14 win over East Paulding in the second round of Georgia's Class AAAAA state playoffs.

Senior quarterback Weston Bryan led Lee County (12-0) with 327 yards of total offense and seven touchdowns. He has accounted for 54 touchdowns (26 passing, 28 rushing) on the season. Up next for the Trojans in the quarterfinals is Sprayberry (Marietta) on Friday with the winner most likely facing No. 2 Milton in the semifinals.

In California, Mater Dei (Santa Ana) has been the No. 1 team all season and are two wins away from going wire-to-wire as the nation's top team. The Monarchs won their seventh game against a MaxPreps Top 25 opponent over the weekend with a dominant 36-7 win over Centennial (Corona) to advance to the Southern Section Division 1 championship.

Up next for Mater Dei is No. 7 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday. The Braves beat Orange Lutheran (Orange) 20-17 in the other semifinal.

Mater Dei handed Bosco its worst loss under head coach Jason Negro with a 59-14 win during the regular season. It was the first time a running clock has been put on the Braves during Negro's 15-year tenure. The last time the winner of the regular season meeting won the rematch was in 2017. This will be the seventh time these two square off in the section championship since 2016 and it is split three apiece.

Corner Canyon (Draper) moved up five spots to No. 16 after winning its second consecutive Class 6A state title in Utah, beating Lone Peak (Highland) 30-27. The Chargers piled up 312 yards on the ground with Weston Briggs and King Cooper combining for 287 yards rushing and three scores.

The Utah powerhouse won its final eight games without their top quarterback (Helaman Casuga), running back (Bryton Brady) and wide receiver (Jerome Myles). Eric Kjar improved to 100-8 during his eight-year tenure with five state titles. Given the personnel losses due to injury, this might have been his most impressive coaching job to date.

No. 23 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) won its first WCAC championship since 2016 with a 16-7 win over Our Lady of Good Counsel (Olney, Md.). The Stags capped a 10-1 season and will finish ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25 for the first time in eight years.

No. 4 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) goes for its fourth consecutive state title and 15th since 2007 on Tuesday against Arbor View (Las Vegas) at Allegiant Stadium. The Gaels won the regular season meeting 49-14.

No. 21 Bergen Catholic (Oradell) overcame a 14-0 third-quarter deficit and pulled out a 20-14 overtime win over St. Joseph Regional (Montvale) to advance to the Non-Public A championship game in New Jersey. The Crusaders will face Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey) on Friday at MetLife Stadium in search of their fourth consecutive state title.
