Recap: Harlan Hawks vs. Stevens Falcons
The Harlan Hawks were the 83-80 winner over the Stevens Falcons when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Harlan received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 69-54 to the Falcons. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Harlan came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Falcons are ranked 220th).
Despite the defeat, Harlan saw an underclassman step up: Josiah Jones scored 23 points. Jones is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Zakee Thompson, who scored nine points.
Amare Parham was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds for Stevens. Parham hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for six straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Richard Guerra, who scored 14 points.
Harlan's loss dropped their record down to 17-10. As for Stevens, they pushed their record up to 16-12 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Harlan will square off against the WILDCATS at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sotomayor has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games. As for Stevens, they will be playing at home against the Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Taft has now lost 13 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8.
