Basketball Recap: West Potomac Takes Down Hayfield in a Playoff Battle

West Potomac had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They secured a 47-42 W over the Hayfield Hawks on Tuesday. Given the Wolverines' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 13th, while the Hawks are ranked 61st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

West Potomac was led to victory by Olivia Jones and Jill Humphreys. Jones posted 18 points and eight steals, while Humphreys shot 55% from the field to rack up 12 points and eight boards. Those eight steals gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lina Hashimi, who scored eight points and five rebounds.

The win made it two in a row for West Potomac and bumps their season record up to 23-3. As for Hayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 20-8.

West Potomac has already played their next match, a 41-39 victory against South County on the 27th. Hayfield does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
