Softball Recap: Mountain View's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Mountain View came into Thursday's match having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They skirted past the Wilcox Chargers 5-3. That's more bragging rights for the Spartans, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Allison Marcelino made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 18 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Raven Rasmussen-Dailey, who scored a run while going 3-for-4. Naila Rocha also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Wilcox, their record now sits at 4-4.

Looking ahead, Mountain View is taking a road trip to take on Mills at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Mountain View has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Wilcox, they will host San Mateo at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. San Mateo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.3 runs per game this season.
