Basketball Recap: Buchtel Triumphs

Buchtel won the last time they faced North, and Shaylah Jones did her part to make sure it happened again. The Buchtel Griffins walked away with a 62-54 win over the North Vikings on Wednesday thanks to Jones, who almost dropped a double-double with 23 points and nine boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Buchtel's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Samyia Samuel, who posted ten points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in points.

North lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Ce'Airah Underwood, who earned 33 points in addition to six boards and six blocks. Her evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 22 points. Another player making a difference was Armonie Lewis, who put up 18 points along with six rebounds and four steals.

Buchtel's victory bumped their record up to 5-15. As for North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 13 of their last 15 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season.

Looking ahead, Buchtel will square off against Laurel at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Laurel is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season. North does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
