Basketball Recap: Piedmont Academy Cougars vs. Brentwood War Eagles
After flying high against St. George's last Saturday, the Piedmont Academy Cougars came back down to earth. Piedmont Academy took a 55-40 bruising from the War Eagles on Tuesday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Piedmont Academy of the 56-33 defeat they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2023.
Piedmont Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Corbett Crews, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds. Crews hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for four straight games. Chase Taylor was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Brentwood's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Harris Mcclarin led the charge by scoring 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zyion Andrews, who scored 17 points.
Piedmont Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-19. As for Brentwood, their victory was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-3.
Piedmont Academy will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Gators at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in Gatewood's favor is that they have posted big point totals every time they've taken the court this season. As for Brentwood, they will head out on the road to square off against the Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Briarwood Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.
