Baseball Recap: Woonsocket Drops Season-High Score on Times Squared Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Woonsocket). They never let the Times Squared Academy Eagles get on the board and left with a 33-0 win on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Villa Novans, who have now won six matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Ceasar Vazquez Jr made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Vazquez Jr was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. That double was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jullian De Jesus, who went a perfect 6-for-6 with eight RBI, four runs, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Joseph Greenless, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and two doubles.

Woonsocket always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .760. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Woonsocket's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-0. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.4 runs over those games. As for Times Squared Academy, they are on a seven-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Woonsocket will challenge rival Davies Career & Tech at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Villa Novans 2.2, the Patriots 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Times Squared Academy is set to face off against their familiar foe North Smithfield at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
