Volleyball Recap: St. John Paul II Academy Falls Despite Big Games from Lyla Tomko and Meallan Gunther

Fans were treated to a battle of the Eagles on Friday. St. John Paul II Academy came up short against North Broward Prep, falling 3-0. St. John Paul II Academy hasn't had much luck with North Broward Prep recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

St. John Paul II Academy took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-14, 25-20.

Meallan Gunther and Lyla Tomko certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Gunther had 27 digs, while Tomko had 21 digs.

Leading North Broward Prep to victory were Destiny Wiggins and Emma Luehrs. Wiggins had 19 digs and one assist, while Luehrs had 28 assists and two aces. That's the most digs Wiggins has posted over her last six matches. Ava Swartman also deserves some recognition as she served her first aces of the season.

St. John Paul II Academy's loss dropped their record down to 7-7. As for North Broward Prep, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-2.

St. John Paul II Academy has already played their next matchup (against Lake Worth Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for North Broward Prep, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Ransom Everglades on the 6th.
