Baseball Recap: Caldwell Beats St. Benedict's Prep for Their Third Straight Win

Caldwell won the last time they faced St. Benedict's Prep and things went their way on Thursday too. The Chiefs narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Gray Bees 2-1. The win was nothing new for the Chiefs as they're now sitting on three straight.

Marco Sozio spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Caldwell's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Dante Placenti, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. Santino Russo was another, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Caldwell's win bumped their record up to 12-7. As for St. Benedict's Prep, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-15.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Caldwell will venture away from home to challenge Belleville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buccaneers will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Chiefs surely won't give up without a fight. As for St. Benedict's Prep, they are taking a road trip to square off against Dickinson at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
