Basketball Recap: Le'lah Jenkins Key Part of a Team Effort in Warriors Win

North Edgecombe lost to Weldon back in February, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The North Edgecombe Warriors put the hurt on the Weldon Chargers with a sharp 69-47 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Warriors just coasted through the last quarter.

North Edgecombe's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Le'Lah Jenkins, who went 7 for 14 on her way to 22 points. That's the most points Jenkins has posted since back in December of 2023. Diamond Wilson was another key player, going 6 for 14 on her way to 16 points and six assists.

Several Chargers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Shaelyn Johnson, who went 7 of 11 on her way to 19 points and five rebounds. Johnson has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. Kamya Coles was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

The win made it two in a row for North Edgecombe and bumps their season record up to 2-1. As for Weldon, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

North Edgecombe wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 68-15 victory against Rocky Mount Prep on the 10th. As for Weldon, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 55-24 win against Northampton County on the 10th.
