Softball Recap: Newton Has No Trouble Against Hopatcong

Newton never let their opponents score on Monday. They put the hurt on the Hopatcong Chiefs with a sharp 10-0 win. The Braves haven't had any issues with the Chiefs recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

The result came thanks to Jaida Long's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Newton got a big performance out of Isabella Rubino, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Rubino also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Emma Trout was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Newton's win bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Hopatcong, their loss dropped their record down to 3-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newton will square off against Vernon at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hopatcong, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Somerville at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
