Baseball Recap: Indian River Comes Up Short

Indian River had lost three straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 3-6 to make it four. They fell 4-1 to the Lowville Red Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Red Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-1 on Monday.

As for Lowville, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

For Lowville's part, Devin Sweirnik spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. Sweirnik has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dominic Sweirnik, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Indian River will venture away from home to face off against Beaver River at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Beavers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Wolves' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lowville, they will challenge General Brown at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
