League recap: League lead hangs in balance for Cleveland, Yazoo County this week

4A Region 3 league recap: 3/20/13

Yazoo County trails Cleveland by just games in 4A Region 3 standings, which means there could be a new first-place team by next week.

Jordan Burchfield was the best pitcher in the league this week, leading the Wildcats. Over the past week, he racked up one win and six strikeouts.

Cleveland's pitchers have displayed incredible control over the past week and all season, giving up just three walks over the past seven days and 18 on the year, both No. 1 in the league.

Gentry stole 18 bases this week, adding to its league-leading 21 steals on the year.

Five batters hit over .400 this week. The group was paced by Fred Spencer, who collected four hits in seven at bats for a .571 average.



The Wildcats' Burchfield threw five shutout innings in a 16-0 win over Greenwood on Monday. He pitched five scoreless innings and struck out six, while giving up one hit.
