Recap: Liberty Chargers vs. Poinciana Eagles

The Liberty Chargers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They were outmatched by Poinciana at home and fell 50-22. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Liberty has scored all season.

Despite the loss, Liberty saw an underclassman step up: Lamar Lee scored seven points along with five rebounds and three steals. Lee is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season.

Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Liberty struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Hakeem Alvena continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Poinciana, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Devin Williams, who scored ten points along with three steals.

Liberty has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost ten of their last 11 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-12 record this season. As for Poinciana, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-4.

Liberty won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Varsity Opponent at 7:00 p.m. on January 19th. Varsity Opponent is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses. Poinciana will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Horizon at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th. Horizon will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 504th, while Poinciana is ranked 121st).
