Football Recap: Willamette Picks Up Ninth Consecutive Win

Willamette put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 56-20 win over the South Salem Saxons. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won six games by 20 points or more so far this season.

Willamette found their leader in sophomore Zeke Thomas, who threw for 262 yards and four touchdowns on perfect 10-for-10 passing, and also rushed for 56 yards and one TD. Thomas' superb passer rating of 177.1 also marked a new season-high. Hunter Vaughn was another key player, picking up 134 receiving yards and three scores.

Willamette didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited South Salem to a completion percentage of just 36.5%. The Wolverines weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 81.2%.

Willamette's defense didn't let Kellen Bowman, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Tony Cumberland and Tripp Johansen, who racked up four sacks between them. Cumberland is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Willamette's record is now 9-0. As for South Salem, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-9.

Looking ahead, Willamette will challenge Mountainside on Friday. South Salem does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
