Baseball Recap: Kellogg Takes a Loss

Kellogg had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-5 to make it five. They fell just short of the Saugatuck Indians by a score of 5-4. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Indians apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.

As for Saugatuck, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games.

For Saugatuck's part, Holden Burd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Burd has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Nolan LaLonde was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Saugatuck's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 0-4 when he doesn't).

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Indians beat Kellogg by a score of 5-4 later that day.
