Basketball Recap: Anisten Wortmann and Lauren Bernecker Secure Win for Cedar Catholic

Cedar Catholic won against Laurel-Concord-Coleridge last Thursday with 52 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. The Cedar Catholic Trojans took down the Wynot Blue Devils 52-34. That 18 point margin sets a new team best for the Trojans this season.

Leading Cedar Catholic to victory were Lauren Bernecker and Anisten Wortmann. Bernecker posted 16 points and six rebounds, while Wortmann dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten boards. Bernecker has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Arens, who earned nine points and seven rebounds.

Cedar Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.2 points per game. As for Wynot, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cedar Catholic has already played their next contest (against Pierce), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wynot will challenge Niobrara/Verdigre at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. Niobrara/Verdigre will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Wynot surely won't give up without a fight.
