Basketball Recap: New Hanover Wildcats vs. Seventy-First Falcons
It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 63-35, which was the final score in the New Hanover Wildcats's tilt against the Seventy-First Falcons on Tuesday. The loss was the Wildcats' first of the season.
New Hanover's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Skylar Herd, who posted eight points and four steals.
Seventy-First got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jewel Gully out in front who had 12 points along with six boards and five assists. Those five assists gave Gully a new career-high. Elisabeth Kirkland was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to six steals and five assists.
Having lost for the first time this season, New Hanover fell to 3-1. As for Seventy-First, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-1.
Looking ahead, New Hanover will head out on the road to face off against Pine Forest at 6:00 p.m. on the 12th. As for Seventy-First, they have already played their next game, a 64-31 win against Hoke County on the 5th.
