Football Recap: Valley View Finds Playoff Glory Versus South Pasadena

With a playoff win on the line, Valley View rose to the challenge on Friday. They beat the South Pasadena Tigers by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 28-21. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Eagles were the better team in the second half.

Jesse Vega threw for 107 yards and two TDs.

Despite the loss, South Pasadena still got an impressive performance from Trey Freking, who rushed for 190 yards and three scores. Freking is becoming a predictor of the Tigers' success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 7-2 (and 1-3 when he doesn't).

Valley View is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 5.4 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.83 in the others. As for South Pasadena, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Valley View will look to defend their home field on the 29th against Baldwin Park at 7:00 p.m. South Pasadena does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
